Atlanta finally made its decision.
Tua Tagovailoa would start Week 1 against Pittsburgh, with Michael Penix Jr. continuing his recovery and Cooper Rush serving as the backup. It was supposed to bring some stability to one of the NFL’s messiest quarterback situations.
Instead, the Falcons now have another Tua injury scare to deal with.
Because apparently naming a starting quarterback was too easy.
This is the same Atlanta team entering its sixth straight season with a different Week 1 starter. Tua was supposed to be the veteran answer while Penix worked his way back.
Now the Falcons are dealing with another unwanted storyline before they even reach Sunday.
Maybe Tua will be fine.
Maybe this turns into nothing.
But after everything Atlanta has gone through at quarterback, the timing could hardly be worse.
The Falcons don’t need another quarterback soap opera.
They need someone to stay healthy and actually play football.
And right now, Atlanta fans have every right to be wondering:
What the hell is going on with this quarterback room?
