Tradition has always been a major part of Georgia football. Red helmets, red or white jerseys and the famous silver britches have created one of the most recognizable looks in college football.
But in 2026, Kirby Smart is finally allowing the Bulldogs to do something different.
Georgia announced that it will wear an all-white uniform against Western Kentucky on Sept. 12, featuring a white helmet, white jersey and white pants. It will mark the first time in program history that Georgia has worn the complete all-white combination.
For most programs, alternate uniforms aren’t exactly breaking news. Teams around college football regularly introduce new helmets, jerseys and combinations throughout a season.
Georgia isn’t most programs.
Smart has largely stayed away from the alternate-uniform trend during his tenure, preferring to keep Georgia’s traditional appearance intact. The Bulldogs haven’t worn an alternate uniform in a game since the 2021 Peach Bowl against Cincinnati, making this the first alternate look for Georgia in five seasons.
That’s what makes this one interesting.
Georgia has one of the most traditional brands in college football, and there is certainly nothing wrong with the classic red helmets and silver britches. But wearing something different once or twice doesn’t erase decades of tradition.
If anything, the rarity makes the alternate uniforms feel more important.
The all-white look also has a unique story behind it. Smart initially challenged Georgia fans in the spring to increase subscriptions to the Glory Glory NIL platform, with the possibility of the Bulldogs wearing the uniforms if the goal was reached. Now the uniforms are officially coming to Sanford Stadium.
And Georgia picked an interesting game to debut them.
Instead of saving the uniforms for a rivalry game or massive SEC matchup, the Bulldogs will break them out at home against Western Kentucky.
Maybe this is the beginning of Georgia becoming slightly more adventurous with its uniforms. Nobody is asking Smart to turn the Bulldogs into Oregon and debut a different combination every Saturday.
But an occasional alternate?
There’s nothing wrong with that.
Georgia football has spent years proving it can dominate while sticking to tradition. In 2026, the Bulldogs are finally showing that doing something different every once in a while can be pretty fun, too.
