The road to a national championship is never easy in Omaha.
Eight teams have survived the gauntlet of regionals and super regionals to reach the 2026 College World Series, but only one will leave Charles Schwab Field as national champion. While every team remaining has shown the ability to make a deep run, some rosters appear better built for the unique challenges of the CWS than others.
History shows that teams winning their opening game dramatically increase their championship odds. With that in mind, here are my predictions for the 2026 College World Series.
Opening Round Predictions
West Virginia vs. Troy
Prediction: West Virginia
West Virginia has been one of the most consistent teams in the country throughout the postseason. Their pitching staff has the depth needed to survive Omaha, and they should have enough offensive production to get past a dangerous Troy squad.
North Carolina vs. Ole Miss
Prediction: North Carolina
The Tar Heels enter Omaha as one of the tournament favorites. Their lineup consistently generates runs, and their pitching has been outstanding throughout the NCAA Tournament. Ole Miss is capable of making a run, but North Carolina’s balance gives them the edge.
Alabama vs. Oklahoma
Prediction: Alabama
This feels like one of the most evenly matched opening-round games. Alabama’s recent postseason form has been impressive, and their pitching staff has dominated quality opponents. That gives the Crimson Tide a slight advantage over Oklahoma.
Georgia vs. Texas
Prediction: Georgia
The marquee matchup of the opening round features two SEC heavyweights. Texas may have the slight edge in overall pitching numbers, but Georgia leads the nation in power and has proven all season that it can overwhelm elite competition. Expect the Bulldogs to advance behind another explosive offensive performance.
Bracket 1 Winner
North Carolina
The Tar Heels emerge from a difficult side of the bracket thanks to their combination of elite pitching and timely hitting. West Virginia pushes them, but North Carolina’s depth ultimately proves too much over the course of the week.
Bracket 2 Winner
Georgia
The Bulldogs survive the toughest bracket in Omaha.
Georgia’s offense has been the most feared lineup in college baseball all season, and their pitching has improved significantly throughout the postseason. A rematch with Texas could easily go either way, but Georgia’s power gives them the highest ceiling of any team in the field.
By the end of bracket play, the Bulldogs emerge as the team nobody wants to face.
College World Series Finals
Georgia vs. North Carolina
This championship series features two of the most complete teams in the country.
North Carolina’s pitching staff keeps the games competitive, but Georgia’s lineup eventually breaks through. The Bulldogs’ ability to hit for power throughout the order becomes the difference in a best-of-three series.
National Champion: Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia entered Omaha as one of the favorites for a reason. The Bulldogs possess elite power, strong starting pitching, postseason experience and the confidence that comes from navigating the SEC schedule.
After not making the College World Series in 18 years, Georgia finishes the job and captures the 2026 College World Series championship.
