Are Georgia Baseball Fans Taking Sour Power Too Far?

Has the Sour Power craze officially gone too far?

Earlier this season, Georgia baseball players stopped at Buc-ee’s on the way to Starkville and started the now-famous Sour Power candy belt tradition. It was fun. It was organic. Fans embraced it. The Bulldogs kept winning.

But now?

Every time Georgia falls behind, social media fills with grown adults posting photos of themselves wearing candy belts like championship wrestling titles. Some are draping them over their shoulders. Others are hanging them around their necks. A few have even been spotted praying to the candy.

Guys.

It’s a bag of sour candy.

This is starting to feel a lot like the “tarps off” movement from a few years ago. It was funny at first. Then everyone started trying a little too hard. Then it became self-parody.

The Sour Power Belt is a great dugout tradition. It’s part of what makes college baseball fun. But let’s maybe leave it to the players and avoid turning a Buc-ee’s candy aisle into a religious experience.

Georgia faces Oklahoma again tonight in Omaha. The Bulldogs will need timely hitting, good pitching and solid defense.

The candy can stay in the dugout.
