The Atlanta Braves came through in the clutch Tuesday night, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 at Truist Park in a back and forth game that came down to the final inning. The victory snapped Los Angeles’ six game winning streak and gave Atlanta a much needed win against one of the League’s top teams.
Atlanta jumped on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning against Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow. Mauricio Dubon and Michael Harris II delivered RBI singles, while Ozzie Albies added a sacrifice fly to give the Braves an early 3-0 advantage.
Los Angeles quickly answered. The Dodgers scored twice in the second inning before Alex Call’s RBI hit in the fourth tied the game at 3-3. From there, both pitching staffs settled down and kept the game tied heading into the late innings.
Bryce Elder played a major role in keeping Atlanta in the game. The Braves starter worked six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five and walking none. After returning from a knee issue, Elder delivered an important performance against a dangerous Dodgers lineup.
The Braves finally broke through in the eighth inning. With two outs and Matt Olson in scoring position, Albies came through again, lining an RBI single to put Atlanta ahead 4-3. The hit gave Albies his second RBI of the night and provided the difference in the game.
The Dodgers had one final opportunity in the ninth. Shohei Ohtani opened the inning with a triple, immediately putting the tying run 90 feet away. Raisel Iglesias, however, managed to escape the jam by retiring Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Tommy Edman to record his 28th save of the season.
The win moves Atlanta to 77-55 and gives the Braves an important victory as the regular season enters its final stretch. The two teams will meet again Wednesday as Atlanta looks to build momentum from Tuesday night’s dramatic victory.
