Kyle Larson knew exactly how special Corey Day was long before most of the NASCAR world had ever heard his name.
Before the national stock car spotlight, Day was already turning heads in the dirt racing scene, where Larson quickly recognized the raw talent, car control and fearlessness that made the young California driver stand out against veteran competition.
Larson became one of Day’s biggest supporters early on, helping open the door for him within the Hendrick Motorsports pipeline. Since then, Day has done nothing but validate the hype.
Saturday at Dover Motor Speedway felt like another major milestone in that journey.
With Larson watching from atop the pit box like a proud mentor, Day charged from behind to defeat Justin Allgaier and score his second win of the season in thrilling fashion.
It was a cool full-circle moment for both drivers — one superstar recognizing greatness early, and the next rising star proving once again why the belief was justified.
