Week 8 SEC Power Rankings

  1. Ole Miss Rebels (6-0, 3-0 SEC) The Rebels survive a close non-conference game against Washington State, 24-21, to remain undefeated with a league-best 3-0 conference record. They lead a trio of top teams who have not lost an conference contest. Next Week: at #9 Georgia (The Game of the Year!)
  2. Texas A&M Aggies (6-0, 3-0 SEC) The Aggies answered Florida’s upset win with a dominant performance, winning 34-17. Mike Elko has his team focused, and they are now 6-0 and tied for the best SEC record. Next Week: at Arkansas
  3. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1, 3-0 SEC) The Tide survived a major scare on the road, beating previously undefeated Missouri 27-24. Ty Simpson and the offense keep finding ways to win, and they now have the tough road environment win they needed. Next Week: vs. #11 Tennessee (The Third Saturday in October!)
  4. Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 SEC) Georgia quietly got back to work with a 20-10 road win over Auburn. Their only loss is to Alabama, and they look determined to stay in the title race. They have a massive opportunity this week. Next Week: vs. #5 Ole Miss
  5. LSU Tigers (5-1, 2-1 SEC) LSU needed a win, and they got it, beating South Carolina 20-10. The defense stepped up, allowing the Tigers to stabilize their season after the close loss to Ole Miss. Next Week: at #17 Vanderbilt
  6. Tennessee Volunteers (5-1, 2-1 SEC) The Vols were lucky to escape with a 34-31 win over a desperate Arkansas team. A win is a win, but they need a much cleaner performance this week against their biggest rival. Next Week: at #6 Alabama
  7. Missouri Tigers (5-1, 1-1 SEC) Missouri suffers their first loss, falling 27-24 to Alabama. But they proved they belong by taking the Tide down to the final minute. They are still a legitimate threat in the conference. Next Week: vs. Auburn
  8. Texas Longhorns (4-2, 1-1 SEC) What a turnaround. The Longhorns rebounded from two straight losses (FSU, Florida) to shock Oklahoma 23-6 in the Red River Rivalry. Arch Manning was solid, and the defense was dominant. They are now 1-1 in SEC play. Next Week: vs. Kentucky
  9. Oklahoma Sooners (5-1, 1-1 SEC) The Sooners’ perfect season ends in the Cotton Bowl with a brutal 23-6 loss to Texas. John Mateer struggled in his first game back from hand surgery, throwing three interceptions. They need a reset to get their SEC title hopes back on track. Next Week: at South Carolina
  10. Vanderbilt Commodores (5-1, 1-1 SEC) Vanderbilt had a bye week after their Week 6 loss to Alabama. They remain 5-1 and are surprisingly competitive in the conference race. Next Week: vs. #10 LSU
  11. Florida Gators (2-4, 1-2 SEC) The good vibes lasted one week. Florida was crushed by Texas A&M, 34-17, failing to build on their upset of Texas. The road ahead is brutal. Next Week: vs. Mississippi State
  12. South Carolina Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) The Gamecocks fought hard but fell to LSU, 20-10, dropping them to 1-3 in conference play. They desperately need a win this week to keep their season from slipping away. Next Week: vs. #14 Oklahoma
  13. Auburn Tigers (3-3, 0-3 SEC) Auburn struggled to generate offense in a 20-10 home loss to Georgia. Their 0-3 start in conference play puts Hugh Freeze firmly on the hot seat. Next Week: vs. #16 Missouri
  14. Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-2, 0-2 SEC) The Bulldogs had a bye week. Their overall record is respectable, but they need to find a way to compete in the SEC. A win at The Swamp would do that. Next Week: at Florida
  15. Arkansas Razorbacks (2-4, 0-2 SEC) The Razorbacks fought hard, pushing Tennessee to the brink before losing 34-31. This was a moral victory, but they need real wins now. Next Week: vs. #4 Texas A&M
  16. Kentucky Wildcats (2-4, 0-4 SEC) The Wildcats fall to 0-4 in conference play after the 35-14 loss to Georgia. They are struggling to compete on both sides of the ball. Next Week: vs. #21 Texas
