SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Bubba Wallace powered to victory in the 2025 Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 27, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, outlasting Kyle Larson in double overtime to claim his first crown jewel win and lock a NASCAR Cup Series playoff berth. Driving the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota, Wallace ended a 100-race winless streak, marking his third career victory and the first by a Black driver on Indy’s 2.5-mile oval.
Wallace led three times for 23 of the 168 laps, seizing the lead on lap 143 after Ryan Blaney pitted. A rain-induced red flag on lap 156 halted his 4.5-second lead, and fuel concerns loomed as the race extended into two overtimes. Wallace held firm, beating Larson by 0.222 seconds on the final restart. “Unbelievable,” Wallace shouted on TNT, celebrating with his infant son, Becks, in victory lane. “How many days since Bubba Wallace’s last NASCAR Cup Series win? Zero,” beamed a jubilant Wallace.
The race, slowed by six cautions for 28 laps and 15 lead changes, saw Chase Briscoe win stage one and Blaney claim stage two.
The top 10 finishers were: 1. Bubba Wallace, 2. Kyle Larson, 3. Denny Hamlin, 4. Ryan Preece, 5. Brad Keselowski, 6. Todd Gilliland, 7. Ryan Blaney, 8. Christopher Bell, 9. Alex Bowman, 10. Carson Hocevar.
Ty Gibbs finished 21st, clinching the $1 million In-Season Challenge prize over Ty Dillon.
Wallace’s triumph, the first for 23XI Racing in 2025, bolstered the team amid its legal battle with NASCAR over charter status. Co-owner Michael Jordan, absent but on a post-race call, told Wallace he’d “have a drink or two” in celebration. With the playoffs secured, Wallace heads to Iowa Speedway’s Iowa Corn 350 next Sunday, August 3, free of cutline pressure, sitting ninth in the playoff standings with seven playoff points.
NASCAR’s Ross Chastain can’t catch a break.
