Tiger Woods, a five-time Masters champion and one of the most influential figures in golf history, is not competing this year as he continues to recover from injury. His absence removes a player who has consistently driven viewership and casual fan interest whenever he tees it up.
Historically, Woods’ presence has had a measurable impact on ratings. Broadcasts featuring Woods in contention — or even simply in the field — have routinely delivered significant audience increases compared to years when he is not competing. His return to the Masters in 2019, which culminated in a victory, produced one of the most-watched golf telecasts in decades.
Without Woods, networks will rely more heavily on the current generation of stars to carry viewership.
