College football fans have apparently discovered Taylor McGregor.
And, judging by the internet’s reaction, they are not handling it particularly well.
With Molly McGrath moving on to the NFL, somebody had to step into the college football sideline reporter spotlight.
Enter McGregor.
And suddenly every Saturday afternoon has a new reason to check Twitter.
McGregor has actually been grinding at this for years. ESPN has had her on its college football roster since 2019, and she’s become a regular part of the network’s football coverage while also working Cubs broadcasts for Marquee Sports Network.
But this feels like the year everybody finally noticed.
She has the sideline presence, the interviews, the delivery and — perhaps most importantly — the ability to actually report what is happening instead of simply standing next to a coach waiting for the commercial break.
She proved that Monday night when Florida State’s stadium lost power against SMU.
While everyone else was basically sitting around wondering when the hell football was going to happen, McGregor was tracking down updates from officials and the ACC commissioner and feeding useful information back to the broadcast.
That’s not just internet-famous sideline reporter behavior.
That’s good television.
Still, college football Twitter has apparently reached its conclusion.
Taylor McGregor is a star.
And now that everyone has discovered her, ESPN might want to prepare itself for approximately 14 million people suddenly becoming extremely invested in sideline reporting.
