At some point, this stops being “young guys making mistakes” and starts becoming a serious culture problem for Kirby Smart and Georgia football.

The latest example is Georgia defensive back Ja’Marley Riddle, who was arrested on felony drug charges and a speeding charge after allegedly driving around 95 mph while weaving through traffic in southeast Georgia. Police reports also stated officers found marijuana-related products and THC vapes inside the vehicle.

And honestly, what are they doing down in Athens anymore?

This is not some isolated incident. Georgia football has repeatedly made headlines over arrests, reckless driving and dangerous behavior ever since the tragic 2023 crash that killed recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy and offensive lineman Devin Willock.

Yet somehow the stories keep coming.

According to reports, Riddle is now at least the third Georgia player this year connected to driving-related incidents. That is insane for a program that constantly claims it is emphasizing accountability and discipline.

Kirby Smart has already publicly defended the program’s attempts to fix things, saying Georgia requires defensive driving courses and education programs for players. But clearly something is not working.

Because this keeps happening over and over and over again.

And the worst part for Georgia is that this stuff now overshadows the football itself. Every time the Bulldogs land a big recruit or talk national title expectations, another arrest story follows right behind it. The perception of the program is changing fast from “elite dynasty” to “why are these guys constantly in trouble?”

That is a brutal look for one of college football’s biggest brands.

Nobody is saying Kirby Smart is telling players to go 95 mph or break the law. But eventually, the head coach owns the culture of the program whether fans want to hear it or not. That comes with being the face of a powerhouse program making millions of dollars.

And right now, the culture questions around Georgia are getting louder.

Because talent has never been the issue in Athens. Discipline clearly is.
