  1. Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-1, 6-1 B12) The Red Raiders delivered the most definitive win of the year, dismantling previously undefeated BYU 29-7. Their defense was absolutely dominant, holding BYU to a season-low 255 yards of total offense. With six conference wins, Texas Tech is the clear favorite to reach the Big 12 Championship. Next Week: vs. UCF (Saturday, 3:30 PM ET, FOX)
  2. BYU Cougars (8-1, 5-1 B12) The Cougars suffered a massive setback in Lubbock. Their perfect season is over, and the offense struggled mightily against the Texas Tech front seven. However, their 5-1 conference record and strong overall resume keep them in the top two, but they need to rebound immediately. Next Week: vs. TCU (Saturday, 10:15 PM ET, ESPN)
  3. Cincinnati Bearcats (7-2, 5-1 B12) The Bearcats were on a bye week, which proved beneficial as they climbed the rankings without playing. They remain tied with BYU for the second-best conference record and have a huge opportunity this week. Next Week: vs. Arizona (Saturday, 12:00 PM ET, FS1)

Tier 2: Contenders Still Alive

  1. Utah Utes (7-2, 4-2 B12) The Utes were on a bye week and benefited from the chaos above them. Their two losses are to Texas Tech and BYU, and they are now focused solely on winning out to secure a potential tiebreaker advantage for the Big 12 Championship Game. Next Week: at Baylor (Saturday, 7:00 PM ET, ESPN2)
  2. Houston Cougars (8-2, 5-2 B12) The Cougars rebounded from their upset loss with a hard-fought 30-27 win over UCF. This team is built to grind out victories and quietly owns an 8-2 overall record, which keeps them relevant. Next Week: BYE
  3. Arizona State Sun Devils (6-3, 4-2 B12) The Sun Devils were on a bye week after their upset of Texas Tech. Their strong second half puts them in the title mix, and they can secure bowl eligibility this week. Next Week: vs. West Virginia (Saturday, 1:00 PM ET, TNT/HBO Max)
  4. Arizona Wildcats (6-3, 3-3 B12) The Wildcats secured their sixth win and bowl eligibility with a gutsy 24-20 win over Kansas on the road. This is a massive win for the program and vaults them into the crowded middle tier. Next Week: at #25 Cincinnati (Saturday, 12:00 PM ET, FS1)

  2. TCU Horned Frogs (6-3, 3-3 B12) The Horned Frogs suffered a shocking 20-17 loss at home to Iowa State. They are now 6-3 overall, but the loss puts their championship hopes in serious jeopardy. They need a strong performance this week. Next Week: at #7 BYU (Saturday, 10:15 PM ET, ESPN)
  3. Baylor Bears (5-4, 3-3 B12) The Bears were on a bye week but are still fighting for their sixth win. They have a tough challenge this week against Utah. Next Week: vs. #13 Utah (Saturday, 7:00 PM ET, ESPN2)
  4. Kansas Jayhawks (5-5, 3-4 B12) The Jayhawks lost a tough one to Arizona, 24-20, keeping them stuck on five wins. They need one more win over their final two games to secure bowl eligibility. Next Week: BYE
  5. Kansas State Wildcats (4-5, 3-3 B12) The Wildcats suffered a blowout loss to Texas Tech, 43-20. They need two more wins to reach bowl eligibility with three games left. Next Week: at Oklahoma State (Saturday, 12:00 PM ET, ESPNU)

Tier 4: Focus on the Rebuild

  1. West Virginia Mountaineers (4-6, 2-5 B12) West Virginia won a critical road game against Colorado, 29-22. They now have four wins and still have an outside shot at achieving bowl eligibility. Next Week: at Arizona State (Saturday, 1:00 PM ET, TNT/HBO Max)
  2. UCF Knights (4-5, 1-5 B12) UCF lost a tough one in the Space Game to Houston, 30-27, dropping them below .500. They need two more wins to reach bowl eligibility with three games remaining. Next Week: at Texas Tech (Saturday, 3:30 PM ET, FOX)
