Aaron Donald Is Back Tonight as Rams Welcome Giants

After nearly three years away from NFL action, Aaron Donald is finally set to return to the field tonight.

The Los Angeles Rams will host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, and Donald is expected to make his 2026 season debut. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year has been preparing for his comeback since coming out of retirement, and the wait is finally over.

Donald last played during the 2023 season before announcing his retirement. The future Hall of Famer then shocked the football world by returning to the Rams this season, giving Los Angeles another dominant presence in the middle of its defensive line.

His return comes at an important time for the Rams. Los Angeles was defeated 27-7 by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, and the defense struggled to slow down the 49ers’ offense. The Rams will also be without Myles Garrett, who is on injured reserve after undergoing knee surgery.

Now, Donald is expected to provide a major boost.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Donald is expected to play approximately 20 to 30 snaps in his first game back. That limited workload would allow the Rams to ease him into action while still giving the defense one of the most accomplished defensive tackles of his generation.

Donald doesn’t need to play every snap to make his presence felt. His ability to collapse the pocket from the interior could create opportunities for the rest of Los Angeles’ defensive front.

Meanwhile, the Giants enter the matchup looking to build on their Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo will now face a Rams defense featuring a familiar No. 99.

For Rams fans, though, tonight is about more than just another regular-season game.

Aaron Donald is back.

And for the first time since 2023, fans will get to see one of the greatest defensive players of his generation put on a Rams uniform and take an NFL snap.
