The Oklahoma City Thunder are officially giving Russell Westbrook one of the biggest honors in franchise history. The organization announced Monday that it will retire Westbrook’s iconic No. 0 jersey, ensuring that his legacy will forever be remembered in Oklahoma City.

The ceremony is scheduled for February 7, 2027, when the Thunder host the New York Knicks. It will be an emotional night for a fanbase that watched Westbrook develop into one of the greatest players in franchise history.

Westbrook spent the first 11 seasons of his NBA career in Oklahoma City after being selected fourth overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. During that time, he became the face of the franchise and established himself as one of the most explosive players the league has ever seen.

Westbrook Leaves Behind an Incredible Legacy

Westbrook’s accomplishments in Oklahoma City are difficult to overlook. He earned nine All-Star selections with the Thunder, won two scoring titles and captured the 2016-17 NBA MVP award.

That MVP season was particularly special, as Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game, becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double over an entire season.

He also helped lead Oklahoma City to the NBA Finals in 2012, giving the franchise one of its most memorable seasons.

Westbrook remains the Thunder’s all-time leader in games played, points, rebounds, assists, steals and minutes.

A Deserving Tribute

Westbrook announced his retirement from professional basketball in August after 18 NBA seasons. He finished his career as the league’s all-time leader in triple-doubles with 209.

His impact on Oklahoma City went beyond basketball. His competitive mentality, energy and connection with the community made him one of the most beloved athletes in franchise history.

Now, his No. 0 will officially join Nick Collison’s No. 4 in the rafters.

Russell Westbrook gave everything to Oklahoma City, and now the Thunder are making sure his legacy will never be forgotten.
