After missing the postseason in 2025, the Atlanta Braves are officially heading back to October baseball.
Atlanta punched its ticket to the 2026 MLB postseason Friday night, defeating the Houston Astros 6-2 to clinch at least a National League Wild Card spot. The victory gave the Braves their eighth playoff appearance in the last nine seasons.
The Braves entered the night needing a strong performance after dropping two of three games to the Chicago Cubs earlier in the week. They responded in a big way, getting contributions from some of the biggest names on the roster.
Michael Harris II, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson each launched two-run home runs, providing all the offensive firepower Atlanta needed. Harris’ blast gave the Braves an early lead, while Acuña and Olson added insurance later in the game.
Tyler Mahle was just as important. The veteran right-hander continued his outstanding run since joining Atlanta at the trade deadline, allowing just one run and three hits while striking out six over six innings. Mahle has posted a 1.28 ERA across his eight starts since being acquired from San Francisco.
Now, the Braves have their sights set on something bigger.
Atlanta currently leads the NL East by five games over the Philadelphia Phillies with eight games remaining. The Braves’ magic number to clinch the division is three, meaning the NL East crown could be secured very soon.
This postseason berth is especially meaningful after Atlanta finished 76-86 and missed the playoffs last season. The Braves have bounced back in 2026 and now have another opportunity to make a deep October run.
