No. 8 Texas A&M will face its first major test of the 2026 season Saturday when the Aggies welcome Arizona State to Kyle Field.
Texas A&M enters the matchup 1-0 after dominating Missouri State 50-0 in its season opener. The Aggies looked impressive on both sides of the ball, with quarterback Marcel Reed throwing for 233 yards and two touchdowns while the defense completely overwhelmed Missouri State.
Arizona State also enters the game undefeated after an explosive 70-7 victory over Morgan State. The Sun Devils showed plenty of offensive firepower in their opener, but Saturday’s matchup will be a completely different challenge.
Kyle Field Will Be Rocking
One of the biggest storylines heading into this game is the environment.
The game will be played at Kyle Field, where more than 100,000 fans are expected to create one of the loudest environments in college football. Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham has already described playing at Kyle Field as about as difficult as it gets.
This will also be a special game for Texas A&M. The Aggies are bringing back their Red, White and Blue Game for the first time since 2021, honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States and the 25th anniversary of September 11.
Reed And The Aggie Offense
Marcel Reed will be one of the biggest players to watch.
After an efficient performance against Missouri State, Reed will face a much more talented Arizona State defense. Texas A&M will need him to avoid turnovers and consistently move the football if the Aggies want to avoid giving the Sun Devils an opportunity to hang around.
Rueben Owens II also had a strong opening game, rushing for 77 yards on 17 carries. Isaiah Horton, meanwhile, immediately made an impact after transferring from Alabama, catching four passes for 76 yards.
Arizona State Has Nothing To Lose
Arizona State enters the game with confidence after scoring 70 points in Week 1. The Sun Devils are not ranked, but they have an opportunity to make a massive statement against one of the SEC’s top teams.
Dillingham knows the challenge ahead. Arizona State has never played Texas A&M at Kyle Field, making this a completely new experience for the Sun Devils.
Texas A&M won the only previous meeting between the programs, beating Arizona State 38-17 in 2015.
This should be Texas A&M’s toughest game of the season so far, but the Aggies have the home field advantage, more depth and an experienced quarterback.
Arizona State should be able to make some plays offensively, but Texas A&M’s defense could eventually take control.
The Aggies have championship aspirations in 2026, and Saturday will provide the first real opportunity to prove they belong among the nation’s elite.
