Joe Milton could be the next quarterback to get an opportunity with the Philadelphia Eagles as the team searches for answers during a difficult stretch of the 2026 NFL season.
Philadelphia suffered another disappointing loss Monday night, falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys. Tanner McKee started in place of the injured Jalen Hurts, but the Eagles could not maintain their momentum after briefly taking the lead in the third quarter.
With the team dropping five consecutive games, questions are beginning to emerge about whether Philadelphia should give Milton a chance to lead the offense.
McKee Has Not Done Enough to Silence Questions
McKee entered the starting role with an opportunity to prove he could keep the Eagles competitive while Hurts recovers. However, Philadelphia has struggled to find consistency on offense, and Monday’s loss added to the frustration.
McKee finished with 211 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception against Dallas. Although he showed some positive moments, the Eagles ultimately struggled to keep pace with the Cowboys in the second half.
The difficult circumstances surrounding McKee should not be ignored. He has limited starting experience and was not originally expected to carry the offense for an extended period. Still, Philadelphia needs better results if it hopes to turn its season around.
What Joe Milton Could Bring
Milton offers something different. The former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback possesses tremendous arm strength and athletic ability, giving the Eagles a potential option to stretch the field and create plays outside the pocket.
Philadelphia signed Milton off the Cowboys’ practice squad after Hurts was sidelined. While Milton has appeared in NFL games, he remains relatively inexperienced and has yet to establish himself as a reliable starter.
His physical tools could make him an intriguing option, especially if the Eagles believe the offense needs a different approach. However, arm strength alone does not guarantee success. Milton would need to demonstrate that he can make smart decisions, protect the football and operate the offense consistently.
Should Philadelphia Make the Change?
The Eagles should seriously consider giving Milton an opportunity if McKee continues to struggle. With the team searching for answers, evaluating another quarterback could provide valuable information about its options moving forward.
However, Milton should not automatically receive the starting job simply because he has more exciting physical tools.
Philadelphia should evaluate both quarterbacks in practice and determine who gives the offense the best chance to succeed. If McKee cannot deliver improved results, turning to Milton could be a worthwhile gamble.
The Eagles need a spark, and Milton may be worth a look.
