The Seattle Seahawks are showing that last season’s success was no fluke.
Seattle dominated the Arizona Cardinals 31-7 on Sunday, improving to 2-0 while extending its winning streak to 12 games dating back to last season, including the postseason. The Seahawks also have now won 10 straight games against Arizona.
The biggest storyline was Drew Lock.
With Sam Darnold sidelined by a glute injury, Lock made his first start since the final week of the 2024 season. He looked completely comfortable, completing 19 of 26 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception.
All three touchdowns went to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The reigning Offensive Player of the Year was nearly unstoppable, finishing with nine receptions for 155 yards. His first touchdown came on Seattle’s second offensive play, when Lock found him wide open for an 82-yard score.
Smith-Njigba wasn’t finished.
He added touchdown catches of seven and 12 yards in the second half, turning what had been a 7-7 game at halftime into a comfortable Seattle victory.
While the offense eventually took over, Seattle’s defense was arguably just as impressive.
The Seahawks held Arizona to only 151 total yards and forced a key interception from Jacoby Brissett. After the Cardinals tied the game in the second quarter, Seattle completely shut them down after halftime.
The Seahawks scored 24 unanswered points to finish the game.
Emanuel Wilson also provided a strong performance on the ground, rushing for 92 yards on 21 carries, while tight end AJ Barner added a late one-yard touchdown run to put the finishing touches on the victory.
For Seattle, the win is another reminder of just how dangerous this team can be. Even without its starting quarterback, the Seahawks received outstanding quarterback play, explosive production from Smith-Njigba and another dominant defensive performance.
Seattle will now travel to Washington next Sunday looking to remain unbeaten.
