The Seattle Seahawks have made a major move ahead of the NFL trade deadline, acquiring All-Pro offensive guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts. The deal, reported Tuesday, sends a 2027 third round pick and a 2028 fifth round pick to Indianapolis in exchange for one of the league’s most accomplished offensive linemen.

The trade gives Seattle a significant boost up front as the Seahawks look to strengthen their offensive line and remain competitive in the NFC. For Indianapolis, the move signals a potential shift in direction after a disappointing start to the 2026 season.

Seahawks Add an Elite Offensive Lineman

Nelson has established himself as one of the NFL’s premier guards since entering the league as the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The former Notre Dame star has earned eight consecutive Pro Bowl selections and six first or second team All Pro honors.

His consistency and physical style make him a major addition for Seattle. Nelson has been a reliable presence in both pass protection and the running game, giving the Seahawks an experienced player who can immediately improve the interior offensive line.

Seattle is surrendering two future draft picks, but acquiring a player with Nelson’s résumé could be worth the investment. His presence should help create better protection for the quarterback and open running lanes for the team’s backfield.

The deal is pending a physical, according to the Seahawks.

Colts Continue Roster Changes

Indianapolis receives a third-round selection in 2027 and a fifth-round pick in 2028 as it continues making significant changes. The Colts entered Tuesday at 2-5, and the organization recently fired general manager Chris Ballard.

Trading Nelson represents a major departure for a franchise that has relied on him as a cornerstone of its offensive line for years. The veteran has started 136 games during his NFL career, making his departure a significant loss both on the field and in the locker room.

The Colts could turn to 2026 fourth-round pick Jalen Farmer to compete for Nelson’s spot at left guard. Replacing an eight-time Pro Bowler will be a difficult challenge, however, especially for a team attempting to find stability during a disappointing season.

What the Trade Means Moving Forward

For Seattle, the move signals a willingness to invest in proven talent rather than relying exclusively on draft picks. Nelson’s experience and durability could make an immediate difference as the Seahawks pursue their postseason goals.

Indianapolis, meanwhile, gains additional draft capital as it evaluates the future of its roster.

The trade could have major implications for both franchises. Seattle adds an elite offensive lineman who can strengthen its offense immediately, while the Colts begin moving forward without one of the most important players of the past decade in Indianapolis.
