Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian indicated the Longhorns could reconsider future marquee non-conference games after missing last season’s College Football Playoff at 9-3.
Asked whether Texas would continue scheduling national powers, Sarkisian specifically referenced the program’s upcoming home-and-home series with Notre Dame in 2028 and 2029.
“I don’t know about Notre Dame. We’ll see.”
Sarkisian has repeatedly questioned how much the CFP selection committee values strength of schedule, arguing Texas may have been better off with an easier non-conference opponent instead of Ohio State.
His latest comments suggest the Longhorns could rethink future scheduling philosophy if elite matchups don’t provide enough postseason benefit.
The Texas-Notre Dame series remains on the schedule for now, but Sarkisian’s remarks are likely to fuel speculation about whether one of college football’s most anticipated future home-and-home matchups will ultimately be played.
