WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump is pushing full throttle toward America’s 250th birthday with a bold motorsports celebration: an IndyCar street race in the nation’s capital called the Freedom 250.

The race, part of the nationwide America 250 celebration, is scheduled for Aug. 21–23 in Washington, D.C., with the main event set for Aug. 23 as a round of the IndyCar Series calendar.

Trump signed an executive order earlier this year authorizing the event and directing federal agencies to design a temporary street circuit through the capital that highlights iconic landmarks around the National Mall.

The race will mark the first major motor race ever held in Washington, D.C., with IndyCars expected to roar past historic monuments and government buildings as part of the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence.

Course details are still under wraps, but organizers say the official layout is expected to drop next week, giving fans their first look at how the temporary street circuit will wind through the capital.

The Freedom 250 was added as a late addition to the 2026 IndyCar schedule, making it one of the most unique events on the calendar and a centerpiece of the national semiquincentennial celebration.

If all goes according to plan, the fastest open-wheel cars in North America will soon be racing through the heart of Washington — bringing speed, spectacle and a little Indianapolis flair to America’s biggest birthday party. 🏁🇺🇸
