BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles delivered one of their most dramatic wins of the young season Monday night, rallying from a six-run deficit to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-7 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Trailing 7-1 in the sixth inning, Baltimore erupted for eight unanswered runs to complete the comeback, highlighted by a grand slam from Jeremiah Jackson and a go-ahead two-run homer by Pete Alonso.
Jackson’s grand slam capped a five-run sixth inning that cut the deficit to 7-6. He later added a solo home run in the eighth, finishing with two homers and five RBIs to lead the Orioles offensively.
Alonso provided the decisive blow in the seventh inning, launching a two-run shot to give Baltimore its first lead of the night at 8-7.
The Diamondbacks appeared in control early, powered by multi-home run performances from Ketel Marte and Nolan Arenado. Arenado drove in five runs, helping Arizona build its six-run cushion.
Baltimore starter Dean Kremer allowed four runs (two earned) and struck out nine over five innings, keeping the Orioles within striking distance despite the early deficit.
The bullpen proved crucial in the comeback effort. Albert Suárez earned the win in relief, while Ryan Helsley closed the game with a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.
Arizona reliever Jonathan Loáisiga was charged with the loss as the Diamondbacks’ bullpen faltered late.
Baltimore finished with eight hits but made them count, capitalizing on timely power to secure its third straight win and one of its most memorable comebacks of the year.
The teams continue their three-game series Tuesday night in Baltimore.
