One of the NFL’s most iconic player-team relationships may not be finished after all.
According to ESPN, the New York Giants worked out Odell Beckham Jr. for a second time this offseason as the franchise continues exploring a potential reunion with the former superstar wide receiver. The workout comes after months of conversations between Beckham and the organization, signaling that both sides remain interested in bringing OBJ back to where it all started.
For Giants fans, this would be a full-circle moment.
Beckham was drafted by New York in 2014 and immediately became one of the most electrifying players in football. His legendary one-handed catch against Dallas remains one of the most famous plays in NFL history, and he recorded four 1,000-yard seasons in his first five years with the franchise before being traded to Cleveland in 2019.
Now, at 33 years old, Beckham is trying to make one more NFL comeback.
The Giants have legitimate reasons to consider adding him. The team has dealt with injuries at wide receiver, including the loss of Gunner Olszewski, and depth has become a concern heading into minicamp and training camp. Beckham, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Braxton Berrios, and Anthony Miller were among the veterans brought in for workouts as New York searched for reinforcements.
There’s also an emotional component.
Earlier this offseason Beckham reportedly met with Giants head coach John Harbaugh and team officials to discuss a possible return. Beckham has openly expressed that he feels he has “unfinished business” with the franchise that drafted him.
From a football perspective, expectations would need to be realistic.
This is not the same Beckham who was making Pro Bowls and terrorizing defenses a decade ago. Injuries have taken their toll, and he has not been a full-time impact player for several seasons. But as a veteran presence for young receivers and rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, Beckham could still provide value in the locker room and on the field.
The timing also makes sense. The Giants are trying to build a new era around Dart, Malik Nabers, and a revamped coaching staff. Bringing back one of the most popular players in franchise history could energize the fan base while giving the offense another experienced weapon.
Whether the reunion ultimately happens remains to be seen, but the fact that New York continues bringing Beckham in for workouts shows this is more than just nostalgia.
For the first time in years, an Odell Beckham Jr. return to the Giants feels like a real possibility.
