Beckham Gets Another Chance in Minnesota
Odell Beckham Jr. is getting another opportunity to revive his NFL career after signing with the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran wide receiver joined Minnesota’s practice squad on Wednesday, October 7, giving him a fresh start with one of the league’s undefeated teams.
The Vikings entered the season 4-0 and are looking to strengthen their passing attack as they prepare for their Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Beckham brings plenty of NFL experience and a history of making big plays when given opportunities.
The move also reunites Beckham with head coach Kevin O’Connell, who worked with him during their time together with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. That season ended with a Super Bowl championship, and Beckham played an important role in the Rams’ postseason run.
A Fresh Start After Disappointing Giants Return
Beckham began the 2026 season with the New York Giants after returning to the team that drafted him 12th overall in 2014. However, his second stint in New York did not go as planned.
The 33-year-old appeared in three games but recorded no catches on one target while playing 20 offensive snaps. The Giants released him on September 29, leaving him looking for another opportunity.
Minnesota could provide a better situation for Beckham to work his way back into a larger role. The Vikings have been searching for more production through the air, and Beckham could offer another experienced option as the offense continues to develop.
Can OBJ Help the Vikings’ Offense?
Beckham has built an impressive career since entering the NFL. He has recorded 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns across 122 regular-season games. He also made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons with the Giants and won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014.
His most memorable recent run came with the Rams, when he caught 21 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns during the 2021 postseason. He scored in Super Bowl LVI before leaving the game with a knee injury.
Beckham also has a connection with Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson. The two share ties to LSU, and their friendship could help Beckham settle into Minnesota’s locker room.
However, joining the practice squad does not guarantee an immediate spot on the active roster. Beckham will need to learn the offense and show the coaching staff that he can contribute.
Another Opportunity for a Veteran Receiver
For the Vikings, signing Beckham is a low-risk move that gives the team another experienced receiver to evaluate. For Beckham, it is a chance to prove he still has something to offer in the NFL.
Minnesota hopes the veteran can eventually provide depth and playmaking ability as the team pursues a strong season. Beckham now has another opportunity to show that his NFL story is not finished.
