One of the NFL’s most respected running backs is calling it a career.
Nick Chubb announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday at the age of 30, bringing an eight year career to an end. Chubb shared the news on social media, saying he had known for some time that his playing days were coming to a close and that he was finally ready to move on from football.
Chubb entered the league in 2018 after the Cleveland Browns selected him in the second round out of Georgia. He quickly established himself as one of the league’s most physical and consistent runners, rushing for 996 yards as a rookie before becoming a four-time Pro Bowl selection from 2019 through 2022.
A Dominant Run in Cleveland
Chubb’s best season came in 2022, when he rushed for a career-high 1,525 yards and scored 13 total touchdowns. He finished that season as a second-team All-Pro and further cemented himself as one of the NFL’s premier running backs.
Over seven seasons with Cleveland, Chubb totaled 6,843 rushing yards and became the third-leading rusher in franchise history, behind only Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly.
Injuries Changed the Final Chapter
Chubb’s career took a major turn in 2023 when he suffered a devastating knee injury that ended his season. He battled his way back onto the field in 2024 but later suffered a broken foot, another setback that limited his production.
Chubb spent the 2025 season with the Houston Texans, rushing for 506 yards in 15 games. He finishes his career with 7,349 rushing yards and 54 rushing touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry.
In his retirement message, Chubb emphasized the importance of his health and his life beyond football. After everything he endured to return from multiple injuries, he said he was proud of the way he finished his career and had no regrets.
