Brazil just received the boost it has been waiting for.

After missing the Seleção’s opening two matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a calf injury, Neymar has officially been declared fit and available for Brazil’s decisive Group C finale against Scotland. The return of Brazil’s all-time leading scorer gives one of the tournament favorites another world-class weapon just as the knockout stage approaches.

Neymar was forced to watch from the sidelines as Brazil opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Morocco before defeating Haiti 3-0. While Brazil collected four points without him, there was no denying that the attack lacked some of the creativity and unpredictability that Neymar has provided throughout his international career.

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the 34-year-old has completed full training sessions and is ready to return. Although Neymar may not play the full 90 minutes, Ancelotti indicated he is capable of handling significant minutes if needed as Brazil looks to secure first place in Group C.

His return couldn’t come at a better time.

Vinícius Júnior has carried Brazil’s attack through the opening two matches, scoring in both games and consistently creating chances with his pace and dribbling. Now, with Neymar back in the lineup, opposing defenses must account for two of the world’s most dangerous attackers instead of one.

Beyond his ability on the ball, Neymar’s experience could prove invaluable. This is his fourth World Cup, and with Brazil chasing a record-extending sixth title, his leadership becomes increasingly important as the pressure intensifies. Ancelotti and teammate Lucas Paquetá have both praised Neymar’s professionalism during his recovery and the influence he continues to have on Brazil’s younger players.

The stakes are significant.

A victory over Scotland would secure Brazil’s place in the Round of 32 and could allow the Seleção to enter the knockout stage with momentum and a fully healthy squad. With Neymar returning just as the tournament begins to reach its most important phase, Brazil suddenly looks far more complete than it did just a few days ago.

For Brazil’s rivals, that’s an intimidating thought.

The tournament has already seen stars like Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Erling Haaland dominate the headlines. Now, Neymar has the opportunity to remind the football world that one of the game’s greatest talents is ready to make his mark on the 2026 World Cup as well.
