No. 23 Missouri walked into Lawrence on Friday night and came away with another huge Border War victory, defeating Kansas 38-21 in a rivalry matchup filled with big plays and plenty of emotion.
The Tigers entered the game looking to build on last year’s 42-31 victory over the Jayhawks, while Kansas was hoping to defend its home field. Instead, Missouri controlled the game when it mattered most and left Lawrence with another win over its longtime rival.
Tigers Take Control
The game started slowly, but the offense eventually came alive.
Missouri found ways to create explosive plays and consistently put pressure on the Kansas defense. The Tigers’ offense, led by quarterback Austin Simmons, continued to make plays throughout the game and eventually pulled away from the Jayhawks.
Kansas had its moments offensively, but Missouri repeatedly answered whenever the Jayhawks threatened to make things interesting.
Simmons Leads The Way
Simmons continued to show why there is so much excitement surrounding him at quarterback.
After throwing four touchdowns in Missouri’s season-opening win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Simmons entered the Border War facing a much tougher test against Kansas. The Tigers needed him to make important throws, and he delivered when his team needed him most.
Missouri’s ability to move the ball through the air helped open up opportunities on the ground and kept Kansas from consistently controlling the game.
Mizzou Finishes Strong
Kansas refused to go away, but Missouri’s defense made the plays necessary to prevent a comeback.
The Tigers continued to build their lead throughout the second half before ultimately closing out the 38-21 victory.
The win gives Missouri another important victory early in the season and allows the Tigers to leave Lawrence with bragging rights in one of college football’s oldest rivalries.
The Border War rivalry dates back to 1891, making it one of the most-played rivalries in college football. Missouri also won the previous meeting, 42-31, in 2025.
Another Big Win For Mizzou
Missouri came into the season with high expectations, and Friday night’s performance provided another reason for Tigers fans to be excited.
The Tigers now move forward with a 38-21 rivalry victory and plenty of momentum.
