The wait is finally over for the Miami Hurricanes.
No. 7 Miami will officially open its 2026 season Friday night when the Hurricanes travel across the country to take on Stanford in an ACC matchup at Stanford Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Miami enters the season with enormous expectations after finishing 13-3 last season and reaching the national championship game before falling to Indiana, 27-21. The Hurricanes return plenty of talent but will have to replace several important pieces, most notably quarterback Carson Beck.
The new quarterback leading Miami’s offense is Darian Mensah, a transfer from Duke who is expected to be one of the biggest storylines for the Hurricanes throughout the season. Mensah will have plenty of weapons around him, including sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney, who is expected to take another major step after a breakout freshman season.
While Miami enters the matchup ranked seventh nationally, Stanford already has a game under its belt. The Cardinal opened the 2026 season in Week 0 with a 37-27 victory over Hawaii.
Stanford quarterback Davis Warren impressed in the opener, throwing the ball effectively while also making plays with his legs. Running back Micah Ford will also be an important player for the Cardinal as they try to keep Miami’s defense off balance.
The biggest challenge for Stanford will be slowing down Miami’s talented offense. The Cardinal allowed 279 passing yards against Hawaii, and facing a Miami offense loaded with speed will be a significant step up in competition.
For Miami, the key will be avoiding an early-season letdown. Traveling from South Florida to California for a Friday night game against a Stanford team that already has a win could create some unexpected challenges.
Miami is currently favored by approximately 24.5 points, showing just how much the oddsmakers believe in the Hurricanes’ talent advantage.

Stanford should be able to make a few plays offensively, but Miami’s overall talent and defensive depth should eventually take over.
