The Miami Hurricanes continued their impressive 2026 campaign on Saturday, defeating the Pittsburgh Panthers 52-23 at Hard Rock Stadium. Behind a spectacular performance from quarterback Darian Mensah and a record-setting afternoon from wide receiver Malachi Toney, the No. 1 Hurricanes remained undefeated and strengthened their position as one of college football’s top national championship contenders.

Head coach Mario Cristobal’s team entered the matchup looking to maintain its momentum after a dramatic double-overtime victory over Florida State. Miami showed no signs of slowing down, overwhelming Pittsburgh offensively and defensively to improve to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in ACC play.

Mensah delivered one of his best performances of the season, completing 31 of 37 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns without committing a turnover. His accuracy and ability to spread the football around kept Pittsburgh’s defense off balance throughout the afternoon.

However, Toney stole the spotlight. The talented receiver finished with a school-record 16 receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns. His performance gave Mensah a reliable target whenever the Hurricanes needed a big play and helped Miami establish control early.

Miami opened the game with a field goal before Toney scored on a 19-yard reception to give the Hurricanes a 10-0 advantage. Running back Javian Mallory followed with a 16-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 17-0.

Pittsburgh briefly responded with a five-yard touchdown run from Damon Ferguson Jr., cutting the deficit to 17-7. Miami quickly answered, as Toney turned a short reception into a 53-yard touchdown. Mensah later connected with Gavin Mueller for another score, giving the Hurricanes a commanding 31-7 advantage.

Pittsburgh quarterback Holden Geriner completed 18 of 32 passes for 268 yards and one touchdown, but the Panthers struggled to keep pace with Miami’s explosive offense. Blue Hicks provided a bright spot with five catches for 149 yards, including a 53-yard reception that brought Pittsburgh to the Miami one-yard line just before halftime.

Miami extended its advantage immediately after the break. The Hurricanes recovered an onside kick attempt and scored on a short touchdown run by Mark Fletcher Jr., making it 38-7.

Mallory added his second rushing touchdown before Toney caught another scoring pass in the fourth quarter. With the outcome no longer in doubt, Miami rotated players and allowed the clock to run down.

The victory was especially meaningful because Miami wore throwback uniforms honoring its 2001 national championship team. The current Hurricanes delivered a performance worthy of the occasion, showcasing the explosive offense and defensive intensity that have fueled their undefeated start.

Cristobal’s team will now turn its attention to North Carolina as it attempts to remain unbeaten and continue its pursuit of a College Football Playoff appearance.

For Pittsburgh, the loss marked its third consecutive defeat. The Panthers must regroup quickly as they prepare to host Georgia Tech next weekend.
