The Los Angeles Lakers opened the 2026-27 NBA season in impressive fashion Wednesday night, defeating the Golden State Warriors 127-105 at Crypto.com Arena. Luka Doncic led the way with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while new center Walker Kessler delivered a spectacular debut as Los Angeles dominated the second and third quarters.

The victory gave the Lakers an encouraging start to a new era following LeBron James’ departure to the Philadelphia 76ers. With Doncic now firmly established as the team’s centerpiece, Los Angeles showed plenty of offensive firepower against a familiar Western Conference rival.

Doncic and Kessler Power the Lakers

Doncic controlled the game with his scoring and playmaking, repeatedly creating opportunities for himself and his teammates. His biggest highlight came at the end of the first half, when he connected on a half-court buzzer-beater to give Los Angeles a 66-52 lead.

Kessler was equally impressive in his Lakers debut. The big man scored 26 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made all 12 of his field goal attempts. His finishing around the rim gave Golden State major problems and provided Doncic with a reliable option inside.

Austin Reaves added 23 points and six assists, continuing his role as one of the Lakers’ most important offensive players. Quentin Grimes and Jake LaRavia each contributed 10 points as Los Angeles received production throughout its rotation.

Lakers Take Control After Halftime

Golden State initially looked competitive, with Stephen Curry scoring 16 points in the opening quarter. Curry finished with 23 points, but the Warriors struggled to maintain their early momentum.

Los Angeles outscored Golden State 32-19 in the second quarter before delivering an even more decisive third-quarter performance. The Lakers won the period 36-16, extending their advantage to 102-68 entering the final quarter.

The Lakers’ efficient shooting and ability to capitalize on turnovers helped create a lead the Warriors could not overcome. Golden State struggled defensively, particularly when trying to contain Kessler around the basket.

A Strong Start to the New Era

The Lakers finished with a convincing 22-point victory, offering an early glimpse of their potential with Doncic leading the offense and Kessler strengthening the interior.

Golden State will need to improve defensively and find more consistent support for Curry as the season progresses.

For Los Angeles, the opening night performance was exactly what the team needed. The Lakers have plenty of adjustments ahead, but their dominant win provides an encouraging foundation for the season.
