Los Angeles Overcomes 18 Point Deficit to Remain Undefeated

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their strong start to the NBA season Sunday night, overcoming an 18 point deficit to defeat the Utah Jazz 132-123 at Delta Center. Luka Doncic delivered a spectacular performance, scoring a season high 52 points while adding 10 assists and eight rebounds to lead Los Angeles to its third consecutive victory.

The Lakers improved to 3-0, while Utah fell to 1-2 after letting a promising start slip away. Despite facing a significant early deficit, Los Angeles showed its offensive firepower and composure to complete an impressive comeback on the road.

Doncic Takes Over

Utah came out firing in the opening quarter, putting up 47 points and building a commanding advantage. The Jazz attacked the basket, created second chance opportunities and made it difficult for the Lakers to establish their defensive rhythm.

However, Doncic quickly began turning the game around. The Slovenian superstar finished the first quarter with 17 points and continued attacking throughout the second, helping Los Angeles erase the deficit.

Austin Reaves also caught fire, scoring 15 points in the second quarter after being held scoreless in the opening period. The Lakers erupted for 45 points in the second quarter, taking a 74-71 lead into halftime.

Doncic capped the first half with a stepback three pointer in the closing seconds, giving Los Angeles its first lead of the night.

Lakers Finish Strong in Fourth Quarter

The teams traded baskets throughout the second half, with Utah refusing to let the Lakers pull away. Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 28 points, while Keyonte George recorded 24 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. added 20 points, and rookie Ace Bailey contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Doncic eventually took control late in the fourth quarter, hitting consecutive three pointers during a decisive 14-5 run that gave Los Angeles a 127-121 advantage with 1:42 remaining.

Reaves delivered another crucial basket, knocking down a three pointer with 34 seconds left to extend the Lakers’ lead. He finished with 29 points, providing the perfect complement to Doncic’s historic night.

Walker Kessler, facing his former team for the first time as a Laker, finished with two points and seven rebounds.

Lakers Look to Continue Their Hot Start

The victory gives Los Angeles early momentum as it continues building chemistry around Doncic. The Lakers will return home Tuesday to face the Portland Trail Blazers, while Utah looks to bounce back against Memphis.

With Doncic already producing at an elite level, Los Angeles has plenty of reasons to feel encouraged about its start to the season.
