LeBron James has already done just about everything a basketball player can do.
Four championships. Four MVPs. The NBA’s all-time scoring record. More than two decades in the league.
And now, perhaps the strangest chapter of his career is about to begin.
James is heading to Philadelphia for his record-extending 24th NBA season, joining Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown in what could be one of the most fascinating title pushes of his career.
But here’s the part that makes this different.
James reportedly took a massive pay cut to make it happen.
After making more than $50 million last season with the Lakers, James agreed to a deal worth roughly $8 million over two years with a player option, according to ESPN reporting cited by Reuters.
At 41 years old, LeBron isn’t chasing another massive contract.
He’s chasing something else.
One more championship.
And Philadelphia hasn’t won one since 1983.
That makes this more than just another free-agent move.
It could be the final great gamble of LeBron James’ career.
And if it works?
We may look back at this decision very differently.
