While nothing is official at this time, multiple sources around the garage indicate discussions around McDowell’s long-term future have begun to surface internally, with the 2021 Daytona 500 winner weighing what could be the final chapter of his full-time Cup career.
If McDowell does step away, attention immediately shifts to one of the more intriguing open seats expected to hit the market in the next cycle, with Spire’s continued organizational growth making the No. 71 a more attractive landing spot than in years past.
