Mississippi State is 4-0, ranked No. 16 in the country and sitting at 2-0 in SEC play.
A major reason for that fast start has been quarterback Kamario Taylor.
Taylor has quickly become one of the most exciting players in the conference, putting together impressive performances week after week and leading the Bulldogs through their first four games.
Taylor Has Been On Fire
Through four games, Taylor has thrown for 1,192 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing nearly 68% of his passes.
He has also added 185 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, giving Mississippi State another weapon outside of the passing game.
Taylor has already thrown at least three touchdown passes in every game this season.
His best performance may have come Saturday against No. 19 Missouri.
Taylor completed 27 of 38 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns as Mississippi State rallied to beat the Tigers 31-24. He delivered the biggest throw of the game late in the fourth quarter, connecting with Sanfrisco Magee for a 24-yard touchdown that put the Bulldogs ahead.
Big Moments Against SEC Competition
What makes Taylor’s start even more impressive is what he has done against SEC opponents.
In Mississippi State’s conference opener against South Carolina, the Bulldogs fell behind 16-0 before Taylor helped lead the comeback.
He finished that game with 251 passing yards and four touchdowns as Mississippi State won 41-34.
One week later, Taylor followed it up with another huge performance against Missouri.
The Bulldogs trailed 24-17 entering the fourth quarter before scoring 14 unanswered points to complete the comeback. Taylor’s late touchdown pass to Magee gave Mississippi State the lead for good.
A Quarterback Leading Mississippi State’s Resurgence
Taylor’s production has helped Mississippi State become one of the early surprises of the 2026 college football season.
The Bulldogs entered the year with plenty to prove, but they have now defeated both South Carolina and Missouri in SEC play while remaining undefeated.
Taylor has been at the center of it all.
His combination of accuracy, arm strength and mobility has made him difficult for opposing defenses to contain. He has also shown the ability to make big plays when Mississippi State needs them most.
The Heisman Conversation Is Growing
Taylor’s incredible start has also pushed him into the national award conversation.
After his strong opening to the season, Taylor’s name has emerged among the quarterbacks being discussed in the Heisman Trophy race. Reuters reported that Taylor had climbed dramatically in the betting market after his early-season performances.
There is still a long way to go, but Taylor has already put himself in the conversation.
Mississippi State has four wins, Taylor is producing at an elite level, and the Bulldogs are proving they can compete in the SEC.
