The Indianapolis 500 started on time Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and appeared on track to complete the full 500 miles at 16th and Georgetown.

Now, attention shifts south to Charlotte Motor Speedway, where weather already disrupted race weekend.

Rain delayed and shortened both the NASCAR Truck Series race and the O’Reilly Auto Parts event earlier in the weekend, raising concern ahead of Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600. Forecasts continue to threaten the Charlotte area as NASCAR prepares for its longest race of the season.

The race also arrives during an emotional weekend for the sport, as much of the garage continues to mourn around Kyle Busch and the difficult circumstances surrounding the weekend.

Now, teams, fans and the entire industry hope for one thing Sunday night: clear skies and a full 600-mile race under the lights in Concord.

On Motorsports Christmas, the sport deserves it. We need 500 miles in Indy and 600 at Charlotte. Fingers crossed, it just may happen after all.
