No. 2 Georgia wasted no time showing that it is ready for another run through the SEC.
The Bulldogs traveled to Fayetteville on Saturday and dominated Arkansas from the opening whistle, cruising to a 45-17 victory in their first conference game of the season. Georgia improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play with the win.
The Bulldogs controlled the game on the ground, rushing for 254 yards while scoring four touchdowns. Chauncey Bowens was one of the biggest stars of the afternoon, rushing for three touchdowns on 11 carries. Nate Frazier also found the end zone and finished with 75 rushing yards.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton continued to provide a spark for the Georgia offense. He completed 10 of 13 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown while adding a career-high 97 rushing yards. His 62-yard run in the second quarter helped set up another Georgia touchdown.
Georgia’s defense was just as impressive.
The Bulldogs held Arkansas to only 17 rushing yards on 20 attempts, making it extremely difficult for the Razorbacks to establish any kind of running game. Georgia also recorded three sacks, with Raylen Wilson producing two of them while forcing a fumble.
Georgia led 21-3 at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half. Arkansas scored twice in the fourth quarter, but the game was already firmly in Georgia’s control.
The victory also continued a remarkable trend for Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs. Georgia is now 11-0 in SEC openers under Smart and 11-0 in its first SEC road game under him.
After opening the season with wins of 63-3 over Tennessee State and 70-20 over Western Kentucky, Georgia has now scored 178 points through three games.
The Bulldogs are officially into SEC play, and Saturday’s performance made it clear that they are bringing plenty of momentum with them.
