San Francisco Wins Another NFC West Thriller
The San Francisco 49ers continued their undefeated start to the 2026 NFL season Sunday, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 32-29 at Lumen Field. Behind a clutch fourth quarter performance from quarterback Brock Purdy and a game winning field goal from Eddy Pineiro, San Francisco improved to 5-0 and strengthened its position in the NFC West.
The game featured multiple turnovers, momentum swings and a dramatic finish. Seattle fought back from an eight point halftime deficit to take the lead in the second half, but the 49ers found a way to escape with another important divisional victory.
Purdy Delivers When It Matters Most
Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Although San Francisco’s offense struggled to find consistency for stretches, the quarterback came through when the game was on the line.
Trailing late in the third quarter, the 49ers put together a crucial scoring drive. Purdy connected with veteran receiver Mike Evans on several important plays before throwing a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks. San Francisco then converted a two-point attempt to Evans, taking a 29-26 lead.
Evans was one of the game’s biggest offensive stars, finishing with seven receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. Running back Christian McCaffrey added 68 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Turnovers Keep Seattle in Trouble
The Seahawks repeatedly hurt themselves with costly mistakes. San Francisco forced four turnovers, turning those takeaways into 21 points. Rookie defensive lineman Gracen Halton also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a defensive touchdown just before halftime.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 195 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Seahawks rallied in the second half, scoring 13 points in the third quarter to move ahead, but their mistakes ultimately proved too costly.
Pineiro Seals the Victory
Seattle tied the game at 29 with a field goal in the fourth quarter, giving the 49ers one final opportunity to take control. Purdy led San Francisco down the field, setting up Pineiro for a 44 yard field goal with 1:56 remaining.
The kick put the 49ers ahead 32-29. Seattle had one last chance, but San Francisco’s defense stopped the Seahawks on fourth down to secure the win.
The victory keeps San Francisco unbeaten through five games and gives the team another statement win against a division rival. With Purdy delivering in the biggest moments and the defense creating game-changing turnovers, the 49ers continue to look like one of the NFC’s strongest teams.
