The Facts

According to the NHL, the Panthers are the first team in history to take a 3-0 lead in three straight finals games. Simply remarkable.

The Oilers, fought valiantly up until Game 6. Corey Perry’s late Game 5 clapper kept hopes alive, but Stuart Skinner’s shaky goaltending in Game 6—three goals allowed on Florida’s relentless shooting barrage—doomed Edmonton’s comeback dreams. Leon Draisaitl’s overtime heroics in Games 1 and 4 couldn’t overcome Florida’s physical forecheck, which led for over 222 minutes in the series heading into Tuesday. The Florida Panthers, man.

Panthers fans, still buzzing from their 2024 Game 7 thriller, tossed plastic rats in jubilation, a nod to tradition. Coach Paul Maurice called it “Christmas in June,” as Florida became the first team since Pittsburgh in 2017 to repeat as champs. With NHL playoff history made, the Panthers’ epic 2025 Stanley Cup run is the ultimate viral sports story, dominating X with #StanleyCupFinals fever.
