Oh, this one is going to make some people mad.
Florida brought Gator Bait back.
The chant that disappeared during the 2020 era of college football controversy returned Saturday night at The Swamp, and Gator fans absolutely ate it up.
Six years ago, Florida stopped the band from playing the cue for the chant because of concerns over historical racist imagery connected to the phrase.
Now?
It’s back.
And I couldn’t be happier about it.
Not because I think every controversy should be ignored.
Because college football has spent far too much time turning its traditions into corporate-approved background noise.
Give me the weird chants.
Give me the fight songs.
Give me 90,000 people screaming something that makes absolutely no sense to someone watching from 1,000 miles away.
That’s college football.
Florida president Stuart Bell called traditions meaningful to the Gator family.
He was right.
You don’t have to love Florida.
You don’t even have to like “Gator Bait.”
But watching The Swamp erupt when that chant came back?
That’s what college football is supposed to feel like.
Gator Bait is back.
And that’s awesome.
