President Donald Trump questions the NFL’s decision to play Steelers vs. Saints in Paris as violent protests raise serious safety concerns.
President Donald Trump is questioning whether the NFL is making a massive mistake by moving forward with Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints in Paris.
With widespread protests and civil unrest creating serious security concerns throughout France, Trump believes the league should have considered postponing the historic matchup.
And he isn’t holding back about the situation overseas.
“The NFL could have probably postponed that match,” Trump told reporters Friday, adding that France is “really in trouble.”
The matchup, scheduled for Sunday at Stade de France, is supposed to be a historic moment as the NFL plays its first regular-season game in France. However, growing demonstrations over the country’s cost-of-living crisis have completely overshadowed the excitement.
The situation has become serious enough that the U.S. State Department issued a security alert urging Americans attending the game to exercise caution and avoid demonstrations.
Even the Steelers have canceled a scheduled fan event because of security concerns.
But the NFL isn’t backing down just yet.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has maintained that the league is working closely with French and American authorities to ensure the event can take place safely.
Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also addressed the situation, expressing confidence that the NFL wouldn’t allow the teams to play if conditions were genuinely unsafe.
For the league, this game represents another major step in its international expansion. But for Trump, the potential safety risks are worth questioning.
With thousands of American fans expected to attend, the stakes extend far beyond football.
So is the NFL making the right decision by keeping the game on schedule, or should the league listen to Trump’s concerns before it’s too late?
