The Miami Dolphins have suffered a devastating blow to their offense.
Running back De’Von Achane has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season. The injury occurred during Miami’s 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, September 27.
Achane went down during an 11-yard run in the first quarter. After being tackled awkwardly, he made his way to the sideline before heading to the locker room. He was later ruled out for the remainder of the game.
A Tough Loss for Miami
The injury is a major setback for a Dolphins team searching for answers after opening the season 0-3.
Achane has been one of Miami’s most important offensive players, providing a dangerous combination of speed, receiving ability and big-play potential. His absence leaves a significant hole in the backfield as the Dolphins look to turn their season around.
Head coach Jeff Hafley initially said the outlook was not promising. Further evaluation confirmed the ACL tear, ending Achane’s season.
Who Steps Up in the Backfield?
With Achane sidelined, Miami will need other running backs to take on larger roles.
Ollie Gordon II could be in line for more opportunities after recording 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries against Kansas City. Jaylen Wright could also factor into the backfield once he is healthy.
The Dolphins will likely rely on a combination of their remaining running backs as they attempt to replace Achane’s production.
A Major Setback After a Breakout Season
Achane is coming off an impressive 2025 campaign, finishing with 1,350 rushing yards and 1,838 total yards from scrimmage.
His production made him a central part of Miami’s offense, and the team rewarded him with a four-year, $64 million contract extension during the offseason.
Now, the Dolphins must move forward without one of their biggest playmakers.
