The Denver Nuggets are adding another veteran scorer to their roster, as six time All Star DeMar DeRozan has agreed to sign with the team on a one year, $3.9 million contract, according to multiple reports. The deal is for the veteran minimum and gives Denver another experienced offensive weapon heading into the 2026-27 season.
DeRozan, 37, is entering his 18th NBA season and will join his fifth team after spending the past two seasons with the Sacramento Kings. Last season, he averaged 18.4 points per game while appearing in 77 games. Although it marked the first time in 12 seasons that he failed to average at least 20 points, DeRozan remains one of the league’s most accomplished isolation scorers and mid-range shooters.
The move comes shortly after Denver sent young forward Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a sign-and-trade. Watson averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season, leaving the Nuggets with a need for additional depth on the wing. DeRozan provides a proven veteran presence who can create his own shot and contribute scoring off the bench or in the starting lineup.
DeRozan will now have the opportunity to play alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray as the Nuggets look to bounce back from a disappointing first-round playoff exit last season. After 17 seasons without an NBA championship, DeRozan will also be looking to make the most of what could be another opportunity to compete for a title.
For Denver, the signing is a low risk move that adds experience, scoring and another proven offensive option to an already talented roster.
