Bubba Wallace made it clear Saturday at Dover Motor Speedway that the Indianapolis 500 is not currently on his personal racing bucket list.
Speaking with media ahead of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at the Monster Mile, Wallace said he is content focusing on NASCAR and does not have much interest in pursuing an Indy 500 opportunity despite the growing trend of Cup drivers attempting “The Double” or crossing over into IndyCar competition.
In an era where drivers like Kyle Larson have embraced the challenge of competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, Wallace took a much different stance, emphasizing that he is happy where he is professionally, even as the defending Brickyard 400 winner.
Wallace has established himself as one of the most recognizable stars in NASCAR with 23XI Racing and appears fully committed to continuing his development in stock cars rather than venturing into open-wheel racing.
And honestly, his comments reflected a level of self-awareness many drivers do not always publicly admit. The Indianapolis 500 remains one of the most difficult and dangerous races in the world, requiring a completely different skill set, preparation level and comfort zone than modern NASCAR competition.
Rather than forcing interest in a crossover opportunity simply because it generates headlines, Wallace was straightforward about where his priorities currently stand — competing in NASCAR at the highest level.
For now, it appears fans should not expect Wallace to join the growing list of Cup Series stars attempting to tackle the Racing Capital of the World anytime soon.
