Brock Purdy is quickly becoming one of the biggest stories of the 2026 NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has helped lead his team to an undefeated 5-0 start, and his impressive performances have pushed him into the center of the NFL MVP conversation.

After another important victory over the Seattle Seahawks, Purdy is looking more and more like a legitimate candidate to win the league’s biggest individual award.

Purdy Is Leading an Undefeated 49ers Team

San Francisco has looked like one of the NFL’s best teams through the opening five weeks, and Purdy has played a major role in that success.

Through five games, Purdy has thrown for 1,196 yards and 13 touchdowns with two interceptions. He has also contributed with his legs, giving the 49ers another way to move the football when passing opportunities aren’t available.

His efficiency and ability to protect the football have been especially important. Purdy has consistently found ways to get the ball to his playmakers while making the right decisions in crucial situations.

The 49ers’ undefeated record also strengthens his MVP case. While individual statistics matter, leading a team to wins against quality opponents can make a major difference in the award race.

A Big Win Against Seattle

Purdy and the 49ers faced another challenge Sunday against Seattle, but San Francisco came away with a dramatic 32-29 victory.

Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. His numbers weren’t overwhelming, but he delivered important plays as the 49ers held on for another victory.

San Francisco also received a major contribution from Mike Evans, who caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Christian McCaffrey added a rushing touchdown as the offense found ways to produce when it mattered.

The victory improved the 49ers to 5-0 and kept Purdy near the top of the MVP discussion.

Can Purdy Win His First MVP?

Purdy still has plenty of football ahead, and quarterbacks such as Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes will remain serious competition. Maintaining his production throughout the season will be essential.

However, Purdy has already shown that he can lead a winning team while putting up impressive numbers. His connection with San Francisco’s playmakers and his comfort in Kyle Shanahan’s offense have made the 49ers dangerous every week.

Purdy entered the league as the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Now, he has an opportunity to add an MVP award to a career that has already exceeded expectations.

If San Francisco continues winning and Purdy keeps producing at this level, he could remain one of the leading candidates for the award all season.
