Sam Darnold Is Out For Week 2

The Seattle Seahawks will have to move forward without their starting quarterback in Week 2.

Sam Darnold is expected to miss Seattle’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals after suffering a right hip injury during the Seahawks’ season opener against the New England Patriots.

The injury initially created serious concern for Seattle, but the team received encouraging news after testing ruled out a hip fracture. Darnold later underwent an MRI, which showed that the injury was less severe than initially feared.

Still, the Seahawks are choosing to be cautious with their quarterback.

Drew Lock Gets The Call

Drew Lock will now have the opportunity to take over the starting job while Darnold recovers.

Lock already stepped into the lineup after Darnold was injured against New England and helped Seattle complete a dramatic comeback. He finished 16-of-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown as the Seahawks defeated the Patriots 13-10.

That performance gives Seattle some confidence heading into Week 2.

However, starting an entire game is a completely different challenge than taking over midway through a matchup.

Seahawks Can’t Afford To Panic

Losing Darnold is a major blow for a Seattle team that entered the season with championship expectations.

Darnold was one of the biggest reasons the Seahawks won Super Bowl LX last season, and Seattle was counting on him to lead the offense again in 2026.

The good news is that this does not appear to be a long-term injury. Darnold could potentially return later in the season without missing significant time.

For now, though, the Seahawks have to trust Lock.

A Huge Opportunity For Lock

Week 2 could become a defining moment for Lock.

If he can lead Seattle to another victory, the Seahawks may feel much more comfortable knowing they have a capable backup behind Darnold.

Seattle’s defense already showed it can win games by itself, intercepting Drake Maye three times in the fourth quarter against New England.

Now the offense has to do its part.

Darnold being out is certainly a setback, but the Seahawks have already proven they can overcome adversity.

Now Drew Lock gets his chance to prove he can keep the defending champions rolling.
