The Race for the SEC’s Top Prize

Every young athlete dreams of hoisting the Heisman trophy—the sport’s most prestigious individual award. With the 2026 campaign kicking off in weeks, a fresh roster of athletes is gunning for that massive paycheck and legacy. The SEC owns the history books with 27 Heisman winners dating back to 1942, including the most recent champion, LSU’s Jayden Daniels in 2023. As programs gear up, the spotlight shifts to the guys who can actually carry their teams to New York.

Arch Manning enters the picture as the clear betting favorite. He’s locked in as a top-five NFL Draft pick by next spring. Texas loaded up their offense to ensure he succeeds—Cam Coleman joined the roster, and Ryan Wingo’s already tearing it up on the outside. Manning’s got some of the finest tools in college football at his disposal.

Chambliss and Stockton Chase the Dream

While Manning leads the pack, other QBs in the conference have legitimate paths to the award. Trinidad Chambliss needs to recreate the magic he and Ole Miss sparked last season to stay in the conversation. If he pulls it off, it’ll be hard to ignore the Rebels’ gunslinger for the Heisman. He’s been named the preseason first-team All-SEC quarterback, which sets the bar high. A playoff push solidly positions the Ole Miss QB as a strong contender among the top arms in college football.

Georgia brings its own star to the table with Gunner Stockton. Even though the Bulldogs are the preseason favorites to capture the SEC, Stockton is a genuine Heisman candidate for multiple sports books. The odds are slim for him to claim victory, but it’s certainly not impossible. A standout season for Manning combined with a winning record in the SEC for the Longhorns could surely propel the quarterback to New York this fall. The competition is fierce, and the margin for error is razor-thin.

Why Manning Is the Safe Bet

Arch Manning stands out because he has the ultimate safety net: elite talent surrounding him. When a QB has Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo, defenses have to respect every level of the field. This spacing creates opportunities that other SEC quarterbacks might not see. Chambliss and Stockton are talented, sure, but they face steeper climbs to prove they’re the best in the nation. Manning’s status as a betting favorite reflects the sheer firepower Texas brings to the SEC.

The Longhorns need a winning season in the conference to make this real. A single loss might hurt, but a dominant run through the SEC schedule would seal the deal. The 2026 season is shaping up to be a battle of quarterbacks, but only one can hold the trophy. Manning has the tools to dominate, and if he stays healthy, the award is his to lose. The rest of the SEC better watch out because the path to New York runs through Austin.
