Angel Reese was a liability offensively in Game 6, shooting 5-for-18 while recording five turnovers and five fouls in Atlanta’s victory.
The Atlanta Dream may have won Game 6 of the WNBA Finals, but Angel Reese should be thanking her teammates because she certainly wasn’t the reason they won.
Reese finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, but those numbers are incredibly misleading. She shot an atrocious 5-for-18 from the field (27.8%) and 2-for-8 from three-point range (25%). That’s 13 missed shots in a game where every possession mattered.
But the shooting wasn’t even the entire problem.
Reese also recorded five turnovers and five personal fouls, nearly fouling out while repeatedly giving the opposing team extra opportunities. She had just as many turnovers as made field goals. That’s an embarrassing statistic for someone receiving so much attention.
And of course, the double-double will be the headline for her supporters. But grabbing 12 rebounds doesn’t magically erase 13 missed shots, five turnovers, and five fouls.
Atlanta managed to overcome her offensive struggles and secure the victory, but that doesn’t mean Reese deserves the credit for getting them there.
At what point do we stop praising Angel Reese for filling up the stat sheet and start questioning how much she’s actually helping her team? Because in Game 6, her teammates won the game while she spent most of the night hurting their chances.
