Angel Reese has a chance to deliver Atlanta its first major professional championship since the Braves won the World Series in 2021.

Atlanta hasn’t celebrated a major professional sports championship since the Braves won the World Series in 2021. Now, five years later, Angel Reese has an opportunity to bring another trophy to the city.

And what a story that would be.

After arriving in Atlanta through a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Sky, Reese has completely transformed the Dream into legitimate championship contenders. The 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year has helped lead Atlanta to its first WNBA Finals appearance since 2013.

But Reese isn’t just trying to win a championship. She’s trying to accomplish something the Atlanta Dream have never done before.

The franchise has reached the WNBA Finals three previous times, losing in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Now, Reese, Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray have an opportunity to rewrite that history.

Of course, the road won’t be easy.

Atlanta dropped Game 1 against the Golden State Valkyries, putting even more pressure on Reese and the Dream heading into Monday night’s Game 2. However, this team has already proven it can overcome adversity, including an impressive semifinal sweep of the defending champion New York Liberty.

Reese has also become one of Atlanta’s most recognizable athletes, bringing national attention and excitement to a franchise that desperately needed a superstar.

Just imagine what winning a championship would mean.

The Braves delivered Atlanta an unforgettable moment in 2021. The Falcons are still searching for their first Super Bowl, and the Hawks haven’t won an NBA championship since moving to Atlanta.

Now, Reese has an opportunity to accomplish something those franchises haven’t done in years.

Atlanta has been waiting five years for another championship parade. Angel Reese might be the superstar who finally delivers it.
