Aaron Rodgers didn’t hold back after Pittsburgh’s win in Paris, calling out NFL owners for chasing money while preaching player safety.
Aaron Rodgers might be 42 years old, but he certainly isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Paris on Sunday, Rodgers took aim at NFL ownership, questioning whether the league truly prioritizes player safety or simply cares about making more money.
Rodgers revealed that there had previously been discussions about creating an entire week of international NFL games, allowing teams to play a 16-game schedule with two bye weeks. Instead, the league eventually expanded to 17 regular-season games.
And Rodgers made it clear what he thought about that decision.
According to Rodgers, owners pushed for the additional game because of the extra revenue, sarcastically suggesting that player safety was their motivation.
But he wasn’t finished.
The four-time MVP also criticized owners for being unwilling to spend additional money allowing teams to arrive earlier for international games. Rodgers believes players should have opportunities to experience different cultures, participate in community events, and actually enjoy the countries they’re visiting.
He even joked that NFL owners might be a little tight on money.
And here’s where Rodgers might have a point.
The NFL continues expanding internationally while discussing the possibility of an 18-game regular season. At what point does the league prioritize its players over another opportunity to generate revenue?
It’s an interesting argument coming from someone who has spent more than two decades in the league.
Rodgers has never been afraid of controversy, and this latest statement will certainly get people talking. Whether fans agree with him or not, he’s raising questions the NFL might not want to answer.
Is Aaron Rodgers exposing a legitimate problem with the NFL, or is this just another example of him creating controversy?
