The SEC-LSU drama has officially reached Washington.
Louisiana Senator John Kennedy absolutely unloaded on the SEC over its threat to potentially expel LSU from the conference.
And he didn’t hold back.
Kennedy called the idea “bone deep down to the marrow stupid” and said he has rocks in his driveway that are smarter than that. He also warned that members of Congress would be “on them like a hobo on a ham sandwich” if the SEC actually tried to remove LSU.
This all stems from LSU’s attempt to add former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, despite the SEC’s rules prohibiting players who signed professional contracts from returning to compete in the conference.
LSU ultimately filled its 105-man roster without either player, and the SEC held its highly anticipated meeting Thursday without handing down any punishment.
But this fight clearly became much bigger than football.
When United States senators are publicly threatening the SEC over LSU football, you know college sports have entered completely uncharted territory.
